Self-Assembly in Confined Space

Brief description of the organisation:

Things Alive - Ynvisible develops and markets interactive solutions for everyday printed items. The company was founded in 2010 (Cartaxo, Portugal) as a spin-out from YDreams a company dedicated to the creation of state-of-the-art innovative interactivity projects, products and technologies. Ynvisible vision is:To bring everyday objects and surfaces to life, making them more useful and enjoyable to people. Ynvisible has a highly skilled and multidisciplinary team: chemistry/materials science, electronics, product design and integration and business development. These competencies allow Ynvisible to combine end use design and technology, to deliver complete end solutions to brand owners. Ynvisible’s first solutions are based in part on Ynvisible’s proprietary (patented) solutions in electrochromics technology, which enable the integration of small changing graphics in combination with traditional printed items to bring graphics to life. Scale up production capability has been built to serve first higher volume customer cases, and take on further customer market trials. First product generation started to be commercialized in 2011.

Ynvisible’s electrochromic technology and knowledge of integration with different modules e.g. sources of power-supply, electronics and user interface modules..has been developed during the last years in collaboration with R&D groups from universities and institutes as well as private companies which are leaders in development of Printed Electronics solutions (Xennia and COATEMA). Ynvisible and the parent company have successfully concluded four co-financed R&D projects in collaboration with industrial partners. In these projects electrochromic displays were developed and customized to be integrated in different products based on: plastic, paper, textile, white boards, cork and glass. Proofs-of-concept and prototypes electrochromic technology integrated on the above materials were developed.
